Update, Language Swap and other shtuff

Almost half a year of blog-silence...

Update (or lack of an update)

Much happened since October, some of it might be worth writing about, but most of it is just stuff that happens to other people all the time. Stuff that is important to the people themselves but perfectly boring to those who don't know them. I could try to write about it, try to do a few articles and polish them up until they have a shiny, entertaining style. I chose not to.

Why?
Because I don't have the time right now.
Because there are much more interesting things that you can do with your time.
Because it make me mysterious.

...ok, cancel the last one. (c;

I'll try to blog a bit more in the future. I can't promise I will indeed for a number of reasons: First, I am still in the process of writing my diploma thesis. Much is already done but there is still a goodly amount of work to be done, and time is running fast. Second, there are a lot of other things I deem more important. More important for me to write about and for you to read and think about and to pass on to others. These topics will be featured in my postings more often than in the past, instead of news about my private life (which I think is not so important for those who don't know me anyway).

What kind of topics, you ask?
Things that are not only important but vital to each and everyone of us. How we live now and how we intend to live in the future. What's going wrong with the way we live, why we should change and why we will have to change it if we want to survive as humans. Stuff about our culture and how it affects the things we got wrong.

These had been the topics I originally wanted to write about when I chose the title of my blog. More on that later, when I find time. Until then I give you a couple of websites to visit. Stuff that is important. Stuff that might change your mind, if you allow it.

Story of Stuff

Daniel Quinn
The second Renaissance

and
The Ishmael community

Daniel Quinn's "My Ishmael" was the one book that completely and irrevocably changed my worldview. This might sound scary or over the top, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. If I remembered the day I bought it (which was totally by chance: I found it on a rummage table in a hardware store), I would see this day as something like my second birthday. "The New Renaissance" is a quick summary of Quinn's message, a good start for reading.

We are what we do

If you believe that "we have to do something about it" but don't know how: Start with "We are what we do" and "Pay it forward". They might give you some ideas...

Pay it forward

The Pay it forward movement
and
the English and German Wikipedia entry

See the "external links" / "Weblinks" section at the bottom for further information.

Some of the links have been in my blog's link-list for years. I might comment on them in the future (especially Quinn) , but they can speak for themselves and don't really need me writing about them. The only reason I will do anyway is because more people should learn and think about them.

Other topics will come from my new chosen profession: Green Energy. As I repeatedly wrote in the past, I studied Management and Economics. My focus was in financial management, controlling and investment banking and later on political economy. This might sound like a confession, as people occupied with these things are neither exactly popular nor, in too many cases, are they they paragons to model yourself on. It's not a confession however, because it is what I liked and what interested me.

Note the past tense in the last sentence. While I still find charts, trading and investing interesting and follow the news from the largest circus on this planet (a.k.a. "Wallstreet") on a daily basis, I have changed my studie's focus since last spring - in the nick of time, as I was near the end of my time at the university. A lecture called "Energy Politicy" got me hooked on Renewable Energies, and I decided that this does not only interest me but seems to be a business where I can work while staying true to my inner values (yep, I know how clichéd that sounds!). I wouldn't have had that luxury in the financial industry. That Green Energy is a fast-growing market made it even more enticing. Nothing wrong with saving the world and getting a bit rich in the process! :o)

Long story short, after a few weeks of research I decided that Geothermal Energy is what seems to have a large potential at the moment and is really interesting. I contacted a few companies, did a market study for one of them and since January, I am writing my first diploma thesis about... *drumroll*

„Medium-term perspectives of utilization of geothermal power in Germany on the example of Shallow Geothermal Power, particularly in light of geopolitical and energy-political developments”

…or in German:

“Mittelfristige Perspektiven der Erdwärmenutzung in Deutschland am Beispiel der oberflächennahen Geothermie, insbesondere im Lichte geo- und energiepolitischer Entwicklungen“

I won't be able to write much about the content thanks to the Non-Disclosure Agreement I signed (which is only legitimate, mind you - not that I complain about it) but I can write about this or similar topic, and stuff that I found during my research.

Language swap
I think I'll change the blog's language back to German. Why? Because I am not in India anymore and more important, because I as much as I like having a global audience (however small it may be), I want to reach people nearby, people I can contact in real life - which for me is happening in Germany. :o) So unless there is an international outcry for continuing in English, I'll re-swap to my mother tongue. A sufficiently large outcry (i.e. one or two comments ;o) ) might convince me to write each articls in bilingually, but that's unlikely I guess.

...so that's all for the moment. If your ears (or eyes) are not bleeding by now, come back in a few days or weeks. I am always happy about comments, so don't hesitate. :o)
