No ice at the North Pole anymore?

This year might be the first in human history where the North Pole will be ice-free. Imagine that...

Even if it doesn't happen this year, the problem doesn't go away. On the contrary, chances are high (near 100%, I'd say) that it's getting worse, and getting worse ever faster. Just one example: If the permafrost in the northern regions of Canada and Russia thaws, it will release huge amounts of methane, which is a strong greenhouse gas that will accelerate global warming even more, releasing more methane, etc.

I'm not sure anymore we (as humans) can do enough to stop this developement anymore. I have the bad feeling its too late, and everything we'll do should have been done one generateion earlier, at least.

But I have to fight against these moments of feeling powerless. I'll find a job in renewable energies, period. This way, when my children one day ask me about how the world came to be as it is then, I won't have a bad conscience and can honestly tell them what I do to save what will be left.
