Desertec

It is high time that renewable energy goes "Big Business".

I assume that the Desertec project (German homepage) will place the ball in the court of a many large corporations who - until now - waved green energies aside as non-economical fantasy of green doo-gooders. No more. Desertec shows clearly that green energies are a big business, probably the biggest business possible.

This is the reason why I expect to see more mega-projects like Desertec announced in the near future. Don't believe me?

Then look at what China plans with wind power:China's first of 7 mega wind farms ready to start rolling (German version: China baut Mega-Windkraftpark) China plans the first of seven "mega-windparks", each generating as much energy as 8-10 nuclear powerplants. That's eight times more than what wind energy generates today in China.

I don't think that China announced their windy plans because of Desertec getting all the media attention, or because it felt under pressure from this mostly European project. Even so, managers around the world will read about both projects in the newspaper (and their successor, the net). Not a few of them will question their old beliefs about renewable energy and sustainability. Minds will change, one by one.

It's just as Buckminster Fuller said, and I like to quote every so often:

„You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

In memoriam Miezie

In memoriam Miezie
